The vineyards of Château GRAND MAYNE, situated on the
slopes at the foot of one of the best hillsides in the region, planted in clay
and limestone, sandy-gravelly soils over a subsoil of clinker hard pan, also
produce a second wine, called "Les Plantes du Mayne".
|
|
| |
 |
Half of the PLANTES DU MAYNE comes from a plot isolated from
the Château Grand Mayne, in the Saint Emilion Grand Cru A.O.C.
category. This plot is shown on the land survey map under the
name of the locality "Les Plantes". These vines are cultivated
and their wine vinified and aged with the same stringent quality requirements
as the Château Grand Mayne : ploughing, leaf stripping, crop thinning,
hand picking, vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats,
ageing in new barrels and one-year old barrels used for the previous vintage of
the Château Grand Mayne. |
|
|
The other half comes from vats not selected
for the main wine : 1. Vats from young vines (under 20 years) 2. Vats
from a grape variety that was less successful for the given vintage 3. Part
of the press wine. Needless to say, this blend depends very
much on the vintage, and can be different from one year to the
next. |
